Meet Sustaira: Rory

Here at Sustaira, we get to know all of our employees very well and we want you to know them too! For every new team member, we ask them the following questions to learn about who they are and why sustainability matters to them. Today, we introduce Rory O’Sullivan. Read Rory’s interview below and enjoy!

Rory’s Interview:

Where is home for you?:

I’m originally from Winchester in the UK and currently, I live in Utrecht, the Netherlands!

What made you decide to join the Sustaira team?
For the last 4 years I have had the pleasure (and the frustration) of working to make a large multinational more sustainable, whilst that journey was very fruitful and enjoyable, there were many pain points where I didn’t know where to turn. When I came across Sustaira and met with the team I saw the solutions which Sustaira is capable of, and the potential it has to help solve those pains for others. I joined Sustaira for this reason, because it is capable of solving many problems, for many people, whilst making it possible for more organisations to maximise their positive impact on the world. And that was a journey I vision I wanted to help make happen.

What is your role at Sustaira?

I am the Sustainability Lead at Sustaira and my role is to support the development team with Sustainability domain knowledge. Additionally, support long-term client success with the platform, and find the right solution for them.

What does sustainability mean to you?

Sustainability for me is simple, finding a balance in the way our social and business cycles interact with each other and with the natural world. Such that everything we do is replicable for generations to come. It is about so much more than just emissions, but integrating sustainable considerations into everyday decisions.

Where do you believe technology meets sustainability in your vision?

Achieving a sustainable world is arguably an incredibly complex challenge, and requires not just knowing the impact our actions have today but also the unknown impact they will have in the future. Technology allows us to more quickly and easily do this. Additionally, doing the right thing doesn’t pay the bills, corporate sustainability teams are often under-resourced and other teams interacting with sustainability often have it as an additional task. Technology like Sustaira can make it much easier to get more done with less.

Tell us a little bit about you! Just a couple of fun facts or something people may not know. What do you believe people need to know about you?

Besides sustainability my passions mainly lie in music, and love to go to small gigs in and around Utrecht & Amsterdam.
