Sustaira’s Sustainability Plan.

Giving back.

You’ve heard us say it, “Sustainability starts with Sustaira” and we mean that!

To us, a sustainability journey isn't about doing everything 100% right 100% of the time. Of course we would love to do that, but we know that isn't always attainable from the very start. A sustainability journey is about taking as many steps as possible towards a common goal, and committing to constant growth and improvement. As a young company, growth is something that is very important to us, so we want to take this opportunity to share our current sustainability plans that we’ve implemented internally. This plan is a starting point, and will grow and change with us. Like you, we are also on our own sustainability journey. We personally use the solutions and applications we create, along with anything else available to help us build a more sustainable world. Sustaira is growing with sustainability.

Sustainability

Sustaira adopts the definition of Sustainability of the UN with the nuance that we have added ‘mindfully’ as we will aim to work with organizations and people who are conscious and proactively aware of their actions. For us, sustainability is mindfully meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Giving Back.

Sustaira will do the right thing out of the gate by giving back. We will put 1% of our revenue separate to donate and support Sustainability foundations. On top of that, we will also give 1% of our most valuable asset - our Sustaira team’s time - and will volunteer to make a difference. It’s a commitment and core principle we fully believe in. It’s simply doing the right thing. We will keep everyone inside and outside the organization up to date around these initiatives and how we structure these. At the moment we’re in conversation with several foundations to collaborate and see how we can contribute and give our fair share. For instance, have a look at the B Corp certification and 1% for the Planet foundation.

The little things.

Starting with some of our “little” efforts, as a company we are committed to being sustainable in our day to day activities. This includes simple things like power saving settings, dark modes, and shutting down our technology when the workday is over. Things like sleep mode and power saver are great during the day, but when devices are not in use, we shut them down. With technology, we also require the proper disposal or reuse of old computers, cell phones, etc. We don't want the tools we use to contribute to the very things we are trying to stop. We are also committed to paper-free practices and avoid printing at all costs.

Currently, Sustaira is a 100% remote work company. While we love not having a commute, we are still conscious of the impacts that work travel may have. The few times we decide to meet up in one place, we make sure that all work affiliated trips are directly calculated in our applications so we can properly offset and measure the impact. We take massive efforts to practice carpooling and other forms of efficient travel.

At Sustaira, awareness leads to action. As a team we share efforts that we are personally making to be more sustainable in our day to day lives. We calculate our individual footprints and even do things around our own houses to be more sustainable. Good or easy sustainability practices are a conversation that is always happening and everyone is invited to. The more we share, the more we do! Reusing and recycling is also heavily encouraged and we help our employees understand the options they have in their neighborhoods so they can recycle and reuse regardless of budget.

Health and wellness are a huge part of sustainability and we vow to take care of our people. At Sustaira, we promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle and workplace for all employees. We work and play harder, true. We also have wonderful policies for employees that include proper access healthcare, paid time off, equal opportunities, equity, and more.

All of these little things are applied to the other organizations we partner with or do business with. As a company we choose everything from merchandise, to our technology, based not only on need but we choose to work with companies that also have sustainable practices.
