A year ago, Sustaira was formally launched to the rest of the world and wow what a year it has been! Let’s a take a moment to review the first year of an incredibly journey.

The Beginning

In the Summer of ‘21 Sustaira Founder and CEO, Vincent de la Mar knew that wanted to do something big. Something meaningful that will leave a positive mark on this world. A lifelong entrepreneur with a drive to go beyond the bottom line, lead Vince to sustainability and ultimately, the creation of Sustaira.

Thinking about the next Chapter to come, I went back to my roots. My internal drive and intrinsic motivation. The bigger picture. I asked myself, what am I ultimately going to leave behind and how will I actually have an impact with the people around me? Realizing that what you leave behind, goes above and beyond monetary value. The company name, Sustaira, is a strong feminine name where Sustainability and Era come together. The Sustaira logo represents a colorful flower and consists of many circles coming together. The circle stands for fertility. Life. Rebirth. Regeneration. The circle is the perfect symbol of Sustainability and used throughout Sustaira’s branding to provide cohesion and purpose.

The core team of Sustaira - both on the business and technical side - has a tremendous amount of (low-code) application experience with a focus on developing and launching innovative web and mobile apps. We believe that combining and focusing all of our resources, expertise, ideas, knowledge, passion and excitement towards Sustainability, ultimately leads to an acceleration of digital Sustainability initiatives and success. Out of intrinsic motivation, Sustaira is going beyond profit and shareholders. Beyond the short term. Not only for this generation, but for generations to come.

What do we do

The best way to understand Sustaira is through the Sustaira Sustainability Circle. At its most basic, think of Sustaira and this entire circle as a layer of applications and software that fits an organization’s goals or initiatives, and it sits on top of your current systems, not as a replacement, but as a way to bring everything together.

At the top of the circle you see “launchpad” a great way to visualize this is like what you see on your desktop. When you open your computer you have these short cuts or tiles to the things you use most such Google chrome or your files or maybe Apple Music or Spotify. This launchpad gives you that same set up, but with sustainability. Rather than seeing shortcuts to google chrome or your files, you will instead have tiles that are dedicated to sustainability focused applications.

At Sustaira we believe that sustainability goes beyond just a yearly report, or a single need. It’s a journey that includes goal setting, data aggregation and awareness, taking actions, seeing the results and rewards of those actions, and of course the ever important digital reporting piece. Within and between each of these areas we have created these “building block” applications that solve the common challenges we see within each of these areas. We call these building block applications for a very specific reason. These are core building blocks of applications where what you see isn't just what you get. It's your starting point, the core framework of the application with existing functionality that we then customize and tailor to each individual need.

As you’ll notice in the Sustaira Sustainability Circle, all of this sits on top of your core systems both internally and externally. It’s a smart later on your PLM, ERP, HR system, or even Excel spreadsheets. Here we show a few different examples of these systems, but this platform doesn’t discriminate. We can connect with a wide variety of core systems and the goal is to remove as many manual, error prone processes as possible. A huge strength of this platform is how open extensible it is, allowing Sustaira not to replace your core systems, but to become an agile, smart app layer on top of these systems and expand upon them. Typically we do this through API integrations or web services.

With 30 cumulative years of low-code experience across 4 different locations in the US and the Netherlands, we are going beyond sustainability reporting and want to make a difference that matters. We’ve committed to donating 1% of our revenue and team time back to sustainability causes and hope be leaders in making a meaningful impact and enable others to do the same.

Last but not least, while Sustaira is a young tech company there's a tremendous amount of experience that led up to this moment. We have amazing partnerships with both Siemens, and their leading low-code platform Mendix.
